“Working with pets and their human guardians is the best thing! Here’s my story. I fell in love with 2 things, very early in life; Chicago & animals. It took a while, however, to put them together for my life’s work. In 1984, I moved to Chicago. In 1988, I returned to school and completed a masters degree in social work. Following a 20 year career in social work and 4 years working at a local cat shelter, I decided to add dog walking to my daily life. It took no time at all for me to realize that I had found my new calling. In 2011 I decided to go out on my own, and started Shirley’s Pet Project. Growing up, we always had plenty of pets, and I currently have 4 perfect rescue cats: Milo, Beck, Picasso, and Fester. Since they are not interested in adding to our animal family, they thank you, in advance, for letting me care for yours!”

“I grew up in Vermont on a family dairy farm. I moved to Chicago about 11 years ago. As you can imagine I’ve been around animals all my life. I have tons of experience with animals/dogs large and small. I’ve been dog walking for over a year now, and I absolutely love it! Sun and snow are my favorites! Not so much the rain, but we manage! I’m responsible and respectful and care for all animals as if they were mine.”

I am currently a junior at DePaul University, and majoring in Communications & Media. I am originally from Crystal Lake, IL where I graduated form Crystal Lake Central High School and was a member of the baseball team. In my free time I enjoy hanging out at Wrigley Field watching the Cubs. I love all dogs, big or small. In the past, I have had both labs as well as dachshunds. Cats are a new thing for me and I’m loving them! My favorite part of my job is that I get to visit all different types of pets and get to learn all their personalities.
